Businesses that were always profitable suddenly were losing millions. Hundreds of my friends lost their livelihoods and many of these owners closed the doors and just gave up. At first, they thought things would reopen in a couple of weeks. The months dragged on and on. The bills piled up with no hope in sight. Eighteen months went by and suddenly there was hope on the horizon and the city slowly came back to life.
